Single Tooth Replacement
Portland Implant Dentist - John Lee, DDS - Farmington Dental Care
Dental emergencies happen. At Farmington Dental Care in Beaverton, OR, we specialize in cosmetic restorations, including single tooth or multiple teeth replacement. Our implant dentist, Dr. John Lee fully restores missing teeth using the latest in technological advances in dentistry.
When a patient loses a tooth, the jaw bone deteriorates where the tooth should be. Bone loss is not reversible, thereby preventative measures are the best course of action for fighting against further damage done to the smile. Dental implants help preserve gum tissue and bone density while restoring the patient’s ability to eat, speak, and smile normally.
Single Unit Dental Implants
Through their various parts, modern dental implants replicate actual teeth. Single unit dental implants are comprised of three parts: the titanium screw placed into the jaw of the patient; the implant abutment placed into the titanium implant; and, the implant crown, the visible porcelain tooth replica placed on top of the implant abutment.
While the entire process normally takes anywhere between three to six months, the procedure produces a lifetime of results. During this time, the patient must be particularly careful when eating, speaking, and maintain dental hygiene. The long term success of an implant in a healthy patient can turn this treatment into a lifetime investment into their oral health.
During the first step of the procedure, Dr. Lee takes x-rays of the affected area. Next, the implant is installed and a temporary tooth is provided to the patients to allow for normal functions. Finally, when the implant has had adequate time to integrate with the jaw bone and heal, a ceramic porcelain crown is installed for an aesthetic, natural-looking restoration.
Who are Eligible Candidates for Dental Implants?
Patients with isolated cases of tooth loss, such as patients suffering from dental avulsion caused by trauma to the face, failed root canals, or gum disease, are excellent candidates for single unit dental implants. To be eligible for the procedure, a patient is required to have adequate bone density in the jaw region.
Individuals suffering from severe cases of advanced periodontal disease are ineligible for the procedure. Furthermore, smokers are also exempt from receiving implants. However, patients differ from case to case, so be sure to contact your dentist to schedule a consultation to find out whether restorative implants are right for you.
